MDW 25 / Panorami Urbani by lualdimeraldi studio: a dialogue between Architecture, Function, and Community

To understand what goes into making of Panorami Urbani, we visited the production sites of Quadro Design, Rexa, and Ceramiche Caesar. Here, the individual elements of the installation’s urban seating take shape—each material and detail crafted with precision to bring the vision of the lualdimeraldi designer’s duo to life.

MILAN – Via Molino delle Armi 14, corner of Via della Chiusa

Mo.1950_Molino delle Armi, in collaboration with Ceramiche Caesar, Quadro Design, and Rexa, presents Panorami Urbani, a temporary project to be installed in Milan at Via Molino delle Armi 14, corner of Via della Chiusa.

Conceived by lualdimeraldi studio, the project draws inspiration from the MM—Milan metro system, an urban space of unparalleled scale, meticulously designed by Franco Albini, Franca Helg, and Bob Noorda. Their philosophy—focused on material uniformity and the repeatability of solutions—serves as the foundation for this initiative.

The installation features temporary urban furnishings designed to encourage social interaction and shared public space. The combined expertise and innovative materials of the project’s partner brands make the furnishings possible.

We visited the production facilities of Quadro Design, Rexa, and Ceramiche Caesar, immersing ourselves in the processes that bring their products to life. During this journey, we created a visual reportage, capturing each component’s precision and craftsmanship. Through details, textures, and artisanal gestures, we aimed to isolate and highlight the essence of every production phase—showcasing how each element is not only a technical component but a true expression of brand identity and values. The result is a visual narrative that celebrates quality, innovation, and the philosophy behind every creation.

The lualdimeraldi studio concept is built on three core principles:

Design for Disassembly (DfD): A sustainable approach that ensures furnishings can be easily dismantled into their components, reducing waste while facilitating reuse, repair, and recycling. The goal is to create long-lasting, low-impact products within a circular design framework.

Collaboration between brands and designers: By merging the expertise of Mo.1950 and its partner brands, the installation results from a synergy between design and manufacturing excellence.

Design for the Community: Designed for public spaces, the installation is functional and inviting, fostering social interactions.

The installation’s modular elements include seating, planters, and small tables, crafted with carefully selected materials to ensure a simple, functional, and elegant design, much like the Milan metro project. Panorami Urbani is an homage to Milanese design and its ability to blend aesthetics, function, and sustainability seamlessly.
